Moonshine is an Achillea hybrid cross between A. clypeolata and A. Taygetea. This perennial landscape plant, commonly known as Yarrow, is native to Europe. Achilles, of Greek mythology, used his namesake plant to treat battlefield wounds. While its medicinal use is minimal, Moonshine offers a clumping habit of 12-24" tall and 24" wide with clusters of yellow flowers in summer. Hardy in zone 3-9 and heat-loving, this yarrow variety flourishes in sunny herb and cut flower gardens, landscape borders, and xeriscapes. Achillea attracts pollinators and is deer, rabbit, and drought-resistant. For an early long-blooming variety, try Desert Eve.
Moonshine Selling Tips
Sell Moonshine to customers looking for a low-maintenance perennial addition to a border or a cheery, drought-tolerant flower for a cutting garden or xeriscape. Moonshine is a non-invasive yarrow suitable for herb gardens and landscape borders. In full sun, Achillea requires little more than regular rainwater to thrive. Clusters of yellow flowers attract bees and butterflies all summer. Pair this plant with Perovskia, Miscanthus, Echinacea, Cytisus, and Rock Rose for a lovely Mediterranean garden.
Coach Your Customer
1. Space plants 18-20" apart in well-drained soil in full sun.
2. Water regularly after transplanting to establish healthy roots and then water occasionally, allowing the soil to dry between watering.
3. Plant Achillea in the vegetable or cut flower garden to attract pollinators.
4. Use gloves when handling Achillea, as some people have a mild allergy to its foliage and sap.
General Growing Tips For Your Rooted Cutting Liner
To achieve the best results with Moonshine, use well-drained soil in full sun with light feed (100-150 ppm N), temperatures of 55-62 degrees, and a pH of 5.8-6.6. Plant one rooted plug per 4-inch container or 2-3 per 10-inch container. Powdery mildew and root rot can be a problem. Once established, Achillea is very low-maintenance. In containers or landscape applications, it requires little more than full sun and rainwater to thrive.
Flowering
Yellow flower clusters bloom in summer.
Pinching
Moonshine doesn't require pinching.
Spacing
Space containers for adequate airflow around the base of each plant and to allow sunlight to penetrate to the soil level.
Height Control
Use a spray of B-Nine if needed.
Pests
Achillea isn't prone to pests. In landscape applications, it repels pests and attracts pollinators and ladybugs.
Disease
Moonshine isn't prone to disease. Watch for powdery mildew and root rot. Take the following precautions to prevent disease caused by wet, humid conditions.
1. Water plants at the base in the morning and allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
2. Provide good airflow in your greenhouse. We've had success with using horizontal airflow fans.
3. Space containers to allow airflow and for sunlight to penetrate to the soil level.
Planting Moonshine Liners
We recommend planting one rooted liner per 4-inch container or 2-3 plugs per 10-inch container. Use well-drained soil and completely bury the ellepot in the center of 4-inch containers or equally spaced in 10-inch containers.
Rooted Cuttings
Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.

Before we take this relationship any further...
It looks like this is the first time you've added anything to your cart.
We just wanted to remind you that we are a wholesale starter plant company that sells to businesses, schools, clubs, and other non-profits. State law dictates that you must be growing for resale to order from us since we are not collecting sales tax.
If we aren't a match, we understand. It's not you, it's us.
We would look awful in orange jumpsuits.
