Aloha Blue, also known as Ageratum Houstonianum or Floss Flower, is an annual native to Mexico. This Ageratum cultivar offers a dwarf mounding habit of 5-8" tall and 8-12" wide, with delicate blue flowers from late spring through fall. This plant flourishes in full sun, attracting butterflies and bees with its fragrant blooms. Beautiful and low-maintenance in containers and borders, Ageratum is an obvious addition to any landscape. For a taller variety, grow Ageratum Bumble Blue.
Aloha Blue Selling Tips
Sell Aloha Blue to customers looking for a low-maintenance annual to add to a container or landscape border. This plant succeeds in full sun with plenty of heat and is outstandingly vigorous. Flowers bloom continuously from spring through fall, requiring little more than moderate water. Bring ornamental interest and pollinators to the landscape without adding to your customer's gardening maintenance. Create a welcoming landscape by growing Aloha Blue with Salvia, Vinca, Angelonia, Begonia, Marigold, and Petunia.
Coach Your Customer
1. Space plants 8-12" apart in well-drained soil in full sun.
2. Water regularly, but don't allow standing water or the soil to dry out, especially in containers.
3. Remove plants from the garden after the first frost.
General Growing Tips For Your Seedling Tray
For best results with Aloha Blue, plant one rooted plug per 1801 cell or 4-inch container. Use well-drained soil with a pH of 5.5-6.0, EC of 0.75-1.5, temperatures of 70-80 daytime and 58-62 nighttime, and light feed (100-150 ppm N). Supply extra iron to treat chlorosis and apply magnesium sulfate once or twice. Use light levels of 1800-2200 fc and note that long days encourage early blooming. This plant will respond to daminozide if needed. You may see aphids or whiteflies. This plant can be susceptible to powdery mildew, botrytis, and rust, especially in cool and wet conditions.
Flowering
Fragrant, feathery blue flowers bloom from late spring through fall.
Pinching
This plant doesn't require pinching.
Spacing
Space containers for adequate airflow and sunlight penetration around the base and foliage of each plant.
Height Control
This plant doesn't typically need PGRs but responds to daminozide.
Pests
You may see aphids and whiteflies.
Disease
Ageratum Bumble can be susceptible to powdery mildew, botrytis, and rust, especially during humid nights and cool days. Take these preventative steps to protect your plants:
1. Water at the base of each plant in the morning and allow the soil to dry between waterings. Don't allow the plants to wilt.
2. Provide good airflow in your greenhouse. We recommend using horizontal airflow fans. Space containers so air can reach the soil level of each plant.
3. Grow plants in full sun.
4. Use a fungicide if needed.
Planting Aloha Blue Liners
We recommend planting one rooted liner per 1801 cell or 4-inch container. Use well-drained soil and completely bury the ellepot in the center of the container. Cell packs finish in 6-7 weeks.
Rooted Cuttings
Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.

Before we take this relationship any further...
It looks like this is the first time you've added anything to your cart.
We just wanted to remind you that we are a wholesale starter plant company that sells to businesses, schools, clubs, and other non-profits. State law dictates that you must be growing for resale to order from us since we are not collecting sales tax.
If we aren't a match, we understand. It's not you, it's us.
We would look awful in orange jumpsuits.
