Brussels Sprout Jade Cross F1 Seedling Tray

For best results with Brussels Sprout Jade Cross F1, plant one seedling per 1801 cell or 4-inch container. Use well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0-6.8, EC of 2.0-2.5 (2:1), temperatures of 60-65°F during the day and 55-60°F at night, and fertilization at 150-200 ppm N. Provide consistent moisture to the seedlings. Water regularly and avoid letting the soil dry out. Water regularly, and don't allow the soil to dry out. Encourage proper sprout formation and prevent elongated stalks by growing this plant under high light levels, 15-20 moles/day. Watch for aphids, flea beetles, cutworms, slugs, whiteflies, powdery mildew, clubroot, black rot, and Alternaria leaf spot. We don't recommend using PGRs on herb or vegetable plants. Pinch once when the plant reaches 6-8" tall to encourage side shoots and higher yields.

Brussels Sprouts produce yellow flowers after harvest. Pinch off any flowers to encourage growth of the sprouts. 

When seedlings reach 6-8" tall, pinch off the growing tip to encourage side shoots and higher overall yields.

Proper spacing for this plant varies depending on the plant's final intended use. Generally, we recommend 10-12 inches between plants and 18-24 inches between rows to ensure adequate room for growth and air circulation. Carefully monitor your plants and adjust the spacing if needed to prevent overcrowding.

Pinching, proper spacing, and adequate light typically maintain an appropriate height for this plant. We don't recommend using chemical growth regulators for vegetable or herb seedlings.

Watch for aphids, caterpillars, slugs, and whiteflies, and act promptly to prevent pest infestations.

Some methods of pest control include using insecticidal soap, horticultural oil, or neem oil to control aphids, handpicking and removing caterpillars, using slug baits or barriers to control slugs, and using sticky traps or insecticides to control whiteflies. Follow the label instructions when using any pesticides. Watch for Clubroot, Black Rot, Downy Mildew, and Bacterial Soft Rot. Monitor plants regularly for signs of disease and control spread with preventative measures, including watering at the base of each plant, spacing containers for adequate airflow and sunlight penetration, and providing proper nutrition and soil. 

Clubroot: A soil-borne disease that causes stunted growth and wilted leaves. To control clubroot, rotate crops every three years, practice good sanitation, and use resistant varieties.

Black Rot: This disease causes brown spots on leaves and blackening of the stem. To control black rot, use sanitary practices, eliminate infected plants, and use a fungicide.

Downy Mildew: This disease causes yellowing of the leaves and a white, fuzzy growth on the undersides of the leaves. To control downy mildew, practice good sanitation, provide proper air circulation, and use a fungicide.

Bacterial Soft Rot: This disease causes the plant to rot and become mushy. To control bacterial soft rot, maintain a clean, dry greenhouse, eliminate infected plants, and use a fungicide.

We recommend using one seedling per 1801 cell or 4-inch container. Fill each container with clean, well-drained soil, gently remove seedling liners and place them into the new containers. Be careful not to damage the roots. Fill around the seedlings with soil, gently pressing it down to remove air pockets.
