Makinoi Ogon, also known as Golden Japanese Stonecrop, is a tender perennial succulent native to Japan. This variety offers lime green to yellow foliage with a mounded mat-forming habit of 2-4" tall and 6-10" wide, and yellow star-shaped flowers in August. This plant tolerates rabbit, deer, heat, and drought, flourishing in full or partial sun with minimal water or care. Grow Stonecrop in a rock garden, container, or well-drained landscape border. Makinoi Ogon is perennial in zone 7-9, where it is well-suited to use as a groundcover or overwinter containers indoors in colder regions.
Makinoi Ogon Selling Tips
Sell Makinoi Ogon to customers looking for a low-maintenance succulent for containers or groundcover. This plant offers many benefits. It has a low, mounded mat-forming habit and excels in full or partial sun with little water. Perennial and evergreen in zone 7-9, Golden Japanese Stonecrop brings color and texture to the landscape year-round and easily overwinters indoors in a container. It is well-suited to rock gardens and dry landscape borders or mixed containers. Create a striking blend of color and texture by planting this variety alongside Coreopsis, Achillea, Sempervivum, Reed Grass, and Geranium.
Coach Your Customer
1. Space plants 8" apart in well-drained soil in full sun or part shade.
2. Water sparingly, only when the soil is dry.
General Growing Tips For Your Rooted Cutting Liner
For best results with Makinoi Ogon, plant one rooted plug per 4-inch container or three to five per 10-inch container. Use well-drained succulent media with a pH of 5.8-6.2, EC of 0.6-0.9 mS/cm (2:1), temperatures of 65-72 daytime and 55-65 nighttime, and low feed (150-200 ppm N). Maintain light intensity at 5,000-9,000 fc and pinch once or twice. Use B-Nine if needed and vernalize for better branching. Watch for spider mites. This plant isn't prone to disease, but root rot can develop in overly wet conditions.
Flowering
Yellow flowers bloom in August.
Pinching
Pinch once.
Spacing
Space containers for adequate airflow and sunlight around the base and foliage of each plant.
Height Control
Control height with B-Nine according to the label instructions or by growing this plant dry.
Pests
You may see spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs.
Disease
This plant isn't prone to disease but root rot and botrytis can develop in overly wet conditions. Growing this plant dry will prevent disease and control growth. Always take preventative measures in your greenhouse.
1. Water at the base of each plant in the morning, allowing the soil to dry between waterings.
2. Provide good airflow in your greenhouse. We recommend using horizontal airflow fans.
3. Space containers to allow airflow and sunlight to reach the soil level of each plant.
Planting Makinoi Ogon Liners
We recommend planting one rooted liner per 4-inch container or three to five per 10-inch container. Use well-drained soil and evenly space or center the ellepots in the containers.
Rooted Cuttings
Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.

Before we take this relationship any further...
It looks like this is the first time you've added anything to your cart.
We just wanted to remind you that we are a wholesale starter plant company that sells to businesses, schools, clubs, and other non-profits. State law dictates that you must be growing for resale to order from us since we are not collecting sales tax.
If we aren't a match, we understand. It's not you, it's us.
We would look awful in orange jumpsuits.
