Amaranthus Early Splendor is a warm-season foliage annual with bright, showy leaves that bring color without relying on traditional flowers. The upper leaves develop strong red and rose tones, giving the plant a tropical, almost Coleus-like effect in sunny beds and mixed containers.

Early Splendor Selling Tips

This variety works well as a bold background plant, a summer foliage accent, or a filler in mixed beds where customers need height and contrast. The bright upper leaves make it easy to pair with grasses, Sweet Potato Vine, Coleus, Zinnias, Celosia, and other heat-loving crops.

General Growing Tips For Your Seedling Tray

Grow Amaranthus Early Splendor in full sun with well-drained soil. It appreciates warm temperatures and strong light to bring out foliage color and keep the plant sturdier. Maintain a soil pH of around 6.1 to 6.5 and use a light to moderate fertilizer 100 to 175 ppm nitrogen.

Flowering

Brilliant crimson and chocolate foliage provides color from early summer until frost. For the best development of those chocolate and crimson hues, the plant needs at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight every day

Pinching

For Amaranthus Early Splendor, you actually don't need to pinch it at all. Since it establishes and grows upward so quickly, if you find you need to control the height, it's better to use a growth regulator.

Spacing

We recommend greenhouse spacing of 6-8 inches apart on center for 4-inch containers. For landscape use, space plants around 18 to 24 inches apart.
