Astro, also known as Eruca sativa or Diplotaxis spp., is an annual cool-season Arugula. This cut-and-come-again variety offers ovate, narrow leaves that bring excellent flavor and nutrition to salads and pink and white flowers that add nutty, spicy flavor to stir fry and salad. Heat tolerant and fast-growing, this plant flourishes in the cool weather of spring and fall but also grows in summer or in winter in a high tunnel or greenhouse. Arugula is a low-maintenance addition to the vegetable garden, flourishing in full or partial sun with well-drained soil and regular water. This variety reaches 8-12" tall and 8" wide, looks attractive in a patio container, and provides fresh salad rich in nutrients year-round.

Coach Your Customer
1. Space plants 8-10" apart in well-drained soil in full or partial sun in early spring or late summer.
2. Water this plant daily. Use wood or straw mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture and help prevent bolting.
3. Harvest leaves by cutting above the basal plate, an inch or two above the ground, allowing a new leaf to regrow. Leaves are ready to harvest when they reach 3-6" tall.
4. Astro does well in mild winters, high tunnels, or greenhouses for cold-weather harvesting.
General Growing Tips For Your Seedling Tray
For best results with Astro, plant one seedling per 1801 cell or 4-inch container. Use a well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0-6.8, low feed (50-75 ppm N), and temperatures of 50-75 daytime and 40-55nighttime. Watch for flea beetles.
Flowering
This plant produces pink and white edible flowers in summer.
Pinching
This plant doesn't require pinching.
Spacing
Space containers to allow sunlight and airflow to reach the soil level of each plant.
Height Control
We don't recommend using PGRs on vegetables or herbs.
Pests
You may see flea beetles. Prevent infestation in the garden or greenhouse with floating row cover.
Disease
This plant isn't prone to disease. Provide good airflow in your greenhouse and allow the soil to dry between watering.
Planting Astro Liners
We recommend planting Astro seedlings in 1801 cellpacks or 4-inch containers. Use a well-drained soil and center the seedling in the container or cell. Cell packs are ready for sale in 1-2 weeks, while 4-inch containers with more mature plants will take 4-5 weeks.
Rooted Cuttings
Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.

Before we take this relationship any further...
It looks like this is the first time you've added anything to your cart.
We just wanted to remind you that we are a wholesale starter plant company that sells to businesses, schools, clubs, and other non-profits. State law dictates that you must be growing for resale to order from us since we are not collecting sales tax.
If we aren't a match, we understand. It's not you, it's us.
We would look awful in orange jumpsuits.
