Crossandra Infundibuliformis, also known as Firecracker Flower, is native to India and Sri Lanka. A tender perennial in zones 10-11, Infundibuliformis Orange is typically grown as an annual outdoors or as an everblooming houseplant. The humidity-loving shrub grows with a mounding habit of 18-24" tall and 12-24" wide. Bright orange flowers bloom year-round indoors and from summer through fall outdoors. Crossandra adds a tropical splash of color and attractive glossy green leaves to mixed containers, borders, and landscape beds. As a houseplant, Infundibuliformis Orange cheers up a partly shady window or corner of indirect light. It's pet-friendly, disease-resistant, and attracts pollinators.

Infundibuliformis Orange Selling Tips

Sell Firecracker Flower to customers looking for a long-blooming container plant for the patio or a low-maintenance, everblooming houseplant. Customers love the easy care of growing Infundibuliformis Orange as an annual, especially in humid climates or poolside. Tropical orange flowers contrast with glossy evergreen leaves that flourish in partial to bright full shade. Crossandra is a noteworthy option for mostly shady borders, patio and poolside containers, and houseplant collections. Create a pleasantly lush landscape by pairing Infundibuliformis Orange with Salvia, New Zealand Flax, Petunia Crazytunia Mandevilla, and Lantana.

Coach Your Customer

1. Plant Crossandra in well-draining, semi-moist soil in partial shade 12-18" apart. These plants can also tolerate full shade if they receive bright indirect light.

2. To grow as an annual or perennial: Water regularly to maintain moist, not soggy, soil. Fertilize every month in spring and summer and every eight weeks in fall and winter. To grow as a perennial in zones 10-11: cut back after the first frost and add a heavy layer of mulch for the winter.

3. To grow as a houseplant, water regularly for semi-moist soil and mist daily to maintain high humidity. Fertilize monthly throughout the spring and summer and every two months in the fall and winter.

4. Keep plants looking tidy, bushy, and healthy while encouraging continuous flowering by deadheading spent blooms.

General Growing Tips For Your Rooted Cutting Liner

For the best results with Crossandra Infundibuliformis, use well-drained soil in partial shade with moderate feed (200-250 ppm balanced liquid fertilizer and 30-50 ppm magnesium), a pH of 5.8-6.5, and an EC (via 2:1 dilution) of 1.5-2.0. Plant one rooted liner per 4-inch container. You may see spider mites and whiteflies. Look out for Botrytis while the days are short.

Flowering

Orange flowers on glossy green foliage are everblooming indoors. Outdoors, Crossandra blooms from summer through fall.

Pinching

This plant may benefit from one pinch 1-2 weeks after transplanting.

Spacing

Plants can be grown pot-tight at first. Space containers for adequate light and airflow before foliage touches.

Height Control

Chemical growth regulators are not usually necessary. Provide adequate light intensity during all stages of growth.

Pests

You may see spider mites and whiteflies.

Disease

Infundibuliformis Orange isn't prone to disease, but you may see Botrytis while the days are short. Decrease humidity during flowering to help prevent Botrytis. Water well and maintain semi-moist soil but do not allow it to become soggy. Maintain sufficient airflow in your greenhouse. Use a drench of Medallion or Banrot according to the label's instructions if needed.

Planting Infundibuliformis Orange Liners

We recommend planting one rooted plug per 4-inch container. Use well-drained soil in partial shade and completely bury the ellepot in the center of your container.

Rooted Cuttings

Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.
