Darlin Burgundy Lace is a hybrid of the tender perennial native to Mexico and Central America. Danziger developed the Darlin' series for its fast growth, double flowers, and early bloom. This plant has a uniform, upright habit of 14-18" tall and 10-12" wide, with white-tipped dark pink flowers from spring through summer. This variety is well-suited to gallon containers and flourishes in full sun with moderate water in landscape borders or front-porch containers. Dahlias are perennial in zone 9-11 or store tubers in a cool, dry place over winter. Pair Burgundy Lace with White and Yellow for a stunning display of color in the garden.
Darlin Burgundy Lace Selling Tips
Sell Darlin Burgundy Lace to customers looking for an attractive Dahlia variety or unique tender perennial for landscape borders or mixed containers. Customers will love this plant's large, colorful blooms and tidy upright habit. White-tipped burgundy flowers bloom from spring through summer, flourishing in full sun with moderate water. Dahlias form tubers that overwinter in the ground in well-drained soil in warm climates, zone 9-11, or be stored in a cool, dry place and replanted in spring. For low-maintenance showy flowers, grow this plant as an annual. Create an attractive rustic or cottage garden by growing Darlin Burgundy Lace alongside Peruvian Lily, Crocosmia, Aster, Hemerocallis, and Agapanthus.
Coach Your Customer
1. Space plants 10-12" apart in landscape borders in well-drained soil in full sun. Space more tightly in containers.
2. This tender perennial forms tubers which will re-grow each season in zone 9-11. Be sure to plant Dahlias in soil with excellent drainage so tubers won't rot over winter. In cold climates, grow this plant as an annual or follow a few simple steps to store tubers indoors. First, cut back foliage after frost kills it and dig up the tubers. Wash off any dirt and allow tubers to dry out in a cool place. Wrap them in paper or peat moss and store them in a dark place at 35-45 degrees. Replant in spring after any chance of frost.
3. Deadhead flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
General Growing Tips For Your Rooted Cutting Liner
For best results with Darlin Burgundy Lace, use one rooted liner per 4-, 6-, or 10-inch container. Use a well-drained soil with a pH of 5.6-6.1, EC of 1.0-1.2 (2:1), average daily temperatures of 65-68 degrees, and light feed (150-200 ppm N). This plant requires long days to bloom, so provide 14 hours of light, whether with night interruption or day extension lighting. Use daminozide and paclobutrazol as needed and pinch once or twice for large containers. You may see aphids, thrips, and whiteflies. Botrytis and root rot can affect this plant, and it is best to spray for powdery mildew preventatively.
Flowering
Burgundy flowers with white tips bloom from spring through summer.
Pinching
Pinch once seven days after transplant, or twice for 10-inch containers.
Spacing
Space containers for adequate airflow and sunlight penetration around the base of each plant.
Height Control
Apply a daminozide spray at 1,500 ppm at transplant if needed. Use a paclobutrazol drench at 1 ppm near finishing if needed.
Pests
You may see aphids, thrips, and whiteflies.
Disease
This plant isn't especially prone to disease, but botrytis and root rot can affect it during short days or wet, humid conditions. Powdery Mildew can be a problem and it is best to apply a preventative spray at transplant. To prevent botrytis and root rot, water at the base of each plant in the morning, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Provide good airflow in your greenhouse. We recommend using horizontal airflow fans. Space plants so sunlight can penetrate to the soil level of each container.
Planting Darlin Burgundy Lace Liners
We recommend planting one rooted plug per container. Use a well-drained soil and completely bury the ellepot in the center of your container.
Rooted Cuttings
Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.

Before we take this relationship any further...
It looks like this is the first time you've added anything to your cart.
We just wanted to remind you that we are a wholesale starter plant company that sells to businesses, schools, clubs, and other non-profits. State law dictates that you must be growing for resale to order from us since we are not collecting sales tax.
If we aren't a match, we understand. It's not you, it's us.
We would look awful in orange jumpsuits.
