General Growing Tips For Your Rooted Cutting Liner

Plant in full sun to partial sun with good air movement and well-drained soil. Maintain a soil pH around 5.8 to 6.5 and avoid keeping the crop overly wet, as dianthus does not like sitting in heavy, soggy media. Feed with a balanced fertilizer around 100–150 ppm nitrogen, or up to 150 ppm.

Flowering

Soft pink blooms will appear from spring to fall.

Pinching

Pinching is not recommended for Dianthus Sweet Pink, especially when growing it for cut-flower production. This variety is bred to produce strong, upright stems naturally, and pinching may delay flowering.

Spacing

Space plants approximately 10–14 inches apart in beds or field production. For cut-flower production, planting density is usually around 4–6 plants per square foot, depending on airflow and production goals.

Pests

Dianthus should be scouted regularly for aphids, especially around tender new growth and flower buds. Growers should also watch for thrips, spider mites, and fungus gnats, especially in greenhouse production.

Disease

The main disease concerns with dianthus are usually related to excess moisture, poor airflow, or wet foliage. Watch for botrytis, powdery mildew, rust, fungal leaf spots, and root rot.

Use one plug when finishing in a 4-inch pot and three to five plugs for 10-inch containers.
