Dianthus Sweet White Rooted Cutting Liner

Grow Dianthus Sweet White in full sun to partial sun with good airflow and well-drained media. Use well-drained media with a pH of 5.8 to 6.5. After plants are established, feed with a balanced or calcium-based fertilizer. A good grower rate is approximately 175 to 225 ppm nitrogen.

Fragrant white flowers bloom from spring through fall. This is a facultative long-day plant that achieves best results in high-light conditions; however, growers should note that high heat combined with high light will result in shorter stems.

Pinching is generally not required for Dianthus Sweet White cut-flower production. This variety is grown for upright stems and flower clusters, so unnecessary pinching can delay the crop.

For cut-flower production, plant Dianthus Sweet White at approximately 4 to 6 plants per square foot. For landscape or garden spacing, space plants around 10 to 14 inches apart.

Common pests to watch for include aphids, thrips, spider mites, leafminers, caterpillars, and fungus gnats.

Disease concerns include root rot, crown rot, botrytis, fusarium wilt, alternaria leaf spot, rust, and powdery mildew.

You should plant one seedling plug if you are using a standard 4-inch container. If you are moving up to a larger 10-inch pot, we recommend planting between three and five plugs to ensure a full and high-quality presentation.
