Glow White Lightning, also known as Lobelia erinus 'Glow,' is an annual or tender perennial flowering plant native to Southern Africa. Danziger developed the Glow cultivar for large blooms and better heat performance. This variety has a compact, mounding habit of 8-10" tall and a 12-14" spread, with small white flowers from spring until frost. A tender perennial in zone 10-11, this plant flourishes in sunny landscape borders, mass plantings, and containers, enticing pollinators with little more than regular water. Grow White Lightning alongside Glow Electric Blue for color contrast.
Glow White Lightning Selling Tips
Sell Glow White Lightning to customers looking for low-maintenance annual landscape or container plants. This plant offers many benefits, including early flowering and superior heat tolerance. With little more than regular water, Lobelia attracts butterflies to the landscape with beautiful white flowers all season. Each flower is small, but the overall impact of dark green foliage covered in white flowers is eye-catching in containers, edges, or landscape borders. Lobelia advances the cottage garden and flourishes in any sunny location. For a stunning mix of color and texture, plant Glow White Lightning with Lysimachia, Dianthus, Pansy, Snapdragon, and Diascia.
Coach Your Customer
1. Plant Lobelia in full sun in well-drained soil. Water regularly.
2. Remove plants at the end of the season in cold-weather regions. In zone 10-11, overwinter this plant outdoors.
General Growing Tips For Your Rooted Cutting Liner
For best results with Glow White Lightning, use well-drained soil with low feed (100-150 ppm N), a pH of 5.6-6.2, and an EC of 1.0-1.2. Plant two or three rooted liners per 4-inch container or 5 plugs per 10-inch basket. Maintain temperatures between 65-68degrees. This plant doesn't have major pest or disease problems, but does need full sun and regular water to thrive. You may see aphids, whiteflies, or thrips.
Flowering
Small white flowers bloom from spring to frost.
Pinching
Pinch once about 5-10 days after transplanting.
Spacing
Space containers for adequate airflow and sunlight penetration between the foliage of each plant. Usually 2’ centers on baskets will be enough.
Height Control
B-Nine, A-Rest and Bonzi have all been tested on Lobelia and are effective. In our experience, pinching is sufficient to create a well-shaped basket. If you decide to use PGRs, follow the label’s instructions. Danziger recommends a 2 ppm drench of Bonzi as needed to combat stretching.
Pests
You may see aphids, whiteflies, and thrips.
Disease
Glow White Lightning isn't prone to disease but avoid oversaturating the soil. Root rot and botrytis can develop in overly moist soil. Botrytis grey rot tends to occur in wet or humid conditions. Take these steps to prevent botrytis:
1. Water in the morning and allow the plant to dry out between waterings.
2. Provide good airflow in your greenhouse. We recommend using horizontal airflow fans.
3. Space plants so the sun can penetrate to the soil level. The most common chemicals used to treat botrytis are Medallion and Banrot. Use them as a drench according to each label’s instructions.
Planting Glow White Lightning Liners
We recommend planting 5 starter plants per 10-inch basket. Use a well-drained soil in your baskets and plant your starter plants deep, completely covering the ellepot with the soil. If you are planting 4-inch pots, use 2-3 plants per pot. When using 3 starters, plant them in a triangle in the middle of your pot.
Pinch Glow White Lightning 5-10 days after transplanting to your final container. Additional pinches every couple of weeks may be required to shape your final pot.
Rooted Cuttings
Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.

Before we take this relationship any further...
It looks like this is the first time you've added anything to your cart.
We just wanted to remind you that we are a wholesale starter plant company that sells to businesses, schools, clubs, and other non-profits. State law dictates that you must be growing for resale to order from us since we are not collecting sales tax.
If we aren't a match, we understand. It's not you, it's us.
We would look awful in orange jumpsuits.
