Summer Wave Trailing Large Amethyst, also known as Wishbone Flower, is a cultivar of the annual flower native to Asia. Suntory developed this variety for its early, long bloom and heat tolerance. This annual plant has a compact trailing habit of 8-10" tall and 20-36" wide, flourishing in full sun to full shade in borders, hanging baskets, window boxes, and mixed containers. Blooming from spring through fall, Torenia's fragrant foliage and vibrant flowers attract pollinators to the garden. This plant is self-cleaning with excellent branching, requiring only regular water to bring colorful whimsy to the landscape. Grow Large Amethyst alongside Trailing Large Blue and Trailing Large Violet.
Summer Wave Trailing Large Amethyst Selling Tips
Sell Summer Wave Trailing Large Amethyst to customers looking for a low-maintenance annual to bring color to a landscape or hanging basket. Suntory bred the Summer series for superior heat tolerance, allowing this plant to bloom from spring until frost. Attractive purple flowers bring bees to the garden, improving mixed containers, borders, and hanging baskets. Pair with Helichrysum, Petunia, and Euphorbia Hypericifolia for a colorful container or landscape with unique visual interest.
Coach Your Customer
1. Space plants 20-30" apart in well-drained soil in a sunny or partly sunny location.
2. Water 1-2 times a week or more in extreme heat or drought.
3. Remove plants after frost or replace them in the spring.
General Growing Tips For Your Rooted Cutting Liner
For best results with Summer Wave Trailing Large Amethyst, plant one rooted plug per 4- or 6-inch container or three per 10-inch basket. Use a well-drained soil in full sun with a pH of 5.8-6.2, an EC of 0.9-1.3 (SME)or 1.4-2.0 (PourThru), temperatures of 71-79 daytime and 59-64 nighttime, light intensity at 5,000-8,000 fc, and medium feed (175-225 ppm N). Pinch once or twice for shaping, and don't use PGRs. Watch for whiteflies, spider mites, and thrips. This plant isn't prone to disease.
Flowering
Purple flowers bloom from spring through fall.
Pinching
Pinch once or twice.
Spacing
Space containers so sunlight and air can reach the soil level of each plant.
Height Control
This plant doesn't require PGRs.
Pests
You may see whiteflies, spider mites, and thrips.
Disease
This plant isn't prone to many diseases. You may see botrytis or root rot, especially when the days are short or humid. Prevent fungal infections by following a few simple steps:
1. Water at the base of each plant in the morning and allow plants to dry out between waterings.
2. Provide sufficient airflow and space plants so sunlight can reach the soil level of each container. We find industrial fans work well to promote airflow in the greenhouse.
3. Treat botrytis with Medallion and Banrot as a drench according to each label's instructions.
Planting Summer Wave Trailing Large Amethyst Liners
We recommend planting one rooted liner per 4 or 6-inch container or 3 per 10-inch container. Use a well-drained soil and do not fully bury the top of the ellepot. Plant plugs in the center of each container or evenly spaced in large baskets.
Rooted Cuttings
Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.

Before we take this relationship any further...
It looks like this is the first time you've added anything to your cart.
We just wanted to remind you that we are a wholesale starter plant company that sells to businesses, schools, clubs, and other non-profits. State law dictates that you must be growing for resale to order from us since we are not collecting sales tax.
If we aren't a match, we understand. It's not you, it's us.
We would look awful in orange jumpsuits.
Product images shown online are intended to represent the mature, finished plant, including its expected color, growth habit, and overall appearance. They are not intended to depict the size or fullness of the starter plug at the time of shipment.
