For best results with Colormax Rose Blotch, plant one rooted plug per 1801 cell or 4-inch container. Use well-drained soil with a pH of 5.5-6.0, EC of 2.1-3.5 (SME), temperatures of 62-68 daytime and 50-55 nighttime, and moderate feed (150-200 ppm N). Viola benefits from an additional Boron supplement at .25 ppm, but check your water supply for Boron before adding more. A pH at or below 5.5 may reduce Thielaviopsis spread. Watch out for aphids, whiteflies, Thielaviopsis, and Anthracnose (leaf spot). This plant doesn't require pinching or PGRs in ideal growing conditions but will respond to daminozide, chlormequat, or ancymidol to control growth. Grow in the fall over winter for early spring sales or in the spring for fall sales; overwintered crops tend to be most successful.

Viola is susceptible to Thielaviopsis root rot and anthracnose leaf rot. Use a preventative fungicide drench at transplant according to the label instructions. Implement sanitary practices in your greenhouse, water at the base of each plant in the morning, allow the soil to dry between watering, and provide good airflow, spacing plants so sunlight and air can reach the base of each plant.

Thielaviopsis basicola is a black root rot common among vinca, pansy, and petunia. Wilting, poor growth, and poor rooting are all potential indicators of black root rot. Use a preventative fungicide on susceptible plants, implement sanitary practices in your greenhouse, and regularly inspect your plants for signs of disease. Maintaining a pH at or below 5.5 may keep this disease at bay. 

Anthracnose is a fungal infection that causes leaf spotting, wilting, and death. Use a preventative fungicide, inspect for signs of infection, and don't overwater.

We recommend planting one rooted liner per 1801 cell or 4-inch container. Use well-drained soil and center the ellepot in the container. Just bury the top of the ellepot as burying it too deep can encourage crown rot to develop.
