Gem Compact Rose Quartz, also known as Red Sage and Lantana Camara, is a tender perennial native to Central and South America. Danziger developed the Gem series for its superior branching and heat and drought tolerance. This cultivar offers a mounded habit of 8-10" tall and 10-12" wide, with yellow and pastel pink flower clusters blooming from spring through summer. Grow Lantana as an annual in cold regions or as a perennial in zone 9-11, where it is root hardy. Use a well-drained soil with a pH of 5.8-6.2, EC of 1.0-1.2, temperatures of 73-75 daytime and 65-68 nighttime, and light feed (100-150 ppm N). Pinch once at transplant and use paclobutrazol to control growth if needed. Watch for thrips, aphids, whiteflies, leafminers, botrytis, and root rot.
